What We Do

Girl Friday offers a full spectrum of publishing opportunities to authors, from selective hybrid imprints to custom production that reflects our clients’ messaging and brand.

Publishing Pathways

There is no one best path to publication—there is only the right path for your book. At GFP, we work to help you understand your options and make the best choice for you.

  • Custom

    HOW IT WORKS:

    • 100% royalty

    • Your own imprint

    • Assisted self-publishing but you call the shots

    • Primarily sold online

    • Books are print on demand (offset print run optional)

    • Ideal for direct sales

    IDEAL FOR AUTHORS WHO:

Desire total control over their project but need guidance through the publishing process and want expert, curated editorial, design, and marketing support. Authors using their book as a business card or to enhance thought leadership are ideal custom clients.

    FOR EXAMPLE:

Author of award-winning historical fiction John Rhodes knows his community and how to target likely readers. Rhodes enjoys no up-front printing costs and receives 100 percent of his proceeds from largely online sales. Through five novels, Rhodes has depended on GFP to help him produce beautiful, well-crafted books.

  • GFB

    HOW IT WORKS:

    • 70/30 royalty split

    • GFB imprint

    • Collaboration and advice from GFB

    • Sold primarily through online retailers

    • Books are print on demand

    IDEAL FOR AUTHORS WHO:

Want a publisher to partner with and the community of an established imprint. This includes first-time authors who don’t want the expense and logistics of a large print run.

    FOR EXAMPLE:

Award-winning novelist and attorney Amanda DuBois sells her genre fiction mainly online. DuBois loves the support of a publisher without the expense and responsibility of physical books that must be warehoused. Win-win!

  • Flashpoint

    HOW IT WORKS:

    • 70/30 royalty split

    • Flashpoint imprint

    • Collaboration and expertise from Flashpoint

    • Ingram Two Rivers reps sell in to physical bookstores, plus libraries, specialty and gift, and national chains

    • Offset print run + distribution + warehousing

    IDEAL FOR AUTHORS WHO:

Have an established community or established platform and a book that benefits from bookstore and specialty sales.

    FOR EXAMPLE:

Popular food blogger Kristyn Merkley of Lil’ Luna wanted to produce a beautiful extension of her online brand. The gorgeous cookbook enjoys strong online sales, both direct and through retailers, and begs for browsing on display in stores.

“I want to thank Girl Friday for putting the book together. GFP helped me with the cover. They came up with the title. It’s the greatest title. My title was terrible! And the cover is perfect. It’s like In Cold Blood.”

Fred Kray, author of Broken, during his award-acceptance speech at IBPA
